Coaching & Mentorship

Are you stagnant? When was the last time you were coached?

When observing people at the top of their profession one thing in common I find is their willingness to learn and better themselves. They seek council, mentorship and coaching.

During life I find myself watching successful people. I like to observe the good and the bad. Finding out what sets them apart in their field interests me. I ask myself, what are they doing different? Is it luck? Is it circumstance? Or have they tried their best to put themselves in the best situation possible for success. One commonality I find across the board is the consistency of seeking outside council. In other words: getting an outside perspective. Perspective is one of the greatest keys to success in anything we do. The ability to see things from a different angle, an unbiased angle. This is necessary to analyze and therefore grow. Quantity will only take you so far until you have to focus on quality in order to progress.

How is it that the best athletes in the world have continual coaching/mentor(s) but most people outside of athletics cannot remember the last time they were coached. Yet we continue to stumble around life frustrated with lack of progress quickly turning to quick fixes and fads only to end up right back where we started. This often ends in frustration and giving up, only to start the process all over again in another facet of our lives.

A few things seem to be consistent with very successful people. They seek good council, do the things others are not willing to do, and repeat fundamental soundness through hours and hours of practice. And of course, all of this is driven by DESIRE!

I want you to ask yourself, “Where are you at in your life”? Are you fundamentally sound in your field? When was the last time you were coached or spent time with a mentor? Do you have a thick skin so that you can receive criticism in order to get better? Do you have an open mind that will allow you to receive and process an outside perspective? Most of all, where is your desire level and motivation? I challenge you to answer these questions and then make a plan. Find a coach/mentor to guide and hold you accountable along the way. Now go BE YOUR BEST!
